13 km · A shorter canyon trip

Practical local planning

Tara River rafting from Žabljak: pickup & transfers.

Žabljak is a convenient northern Montenegro base for reaching Tara Canyon, but the rafting trip does not launch in the town itself. Depending on the package, Silver Firs can arrange pickup from your accommodation and the road transfer to the confirmed rafting base.

The total duration shown on this page covers more than paddling. It can include pickup, the drive to the river, equipment fitting, the safety briefing, time on the water, meal or photography stops and the return journey. Your written confirmation identifies the pickup point, river section, inclusions and expected return time.

Plan your rafting day

When is the best time for Tara River rafting?

For warmer holiday conditions, July and August are often a useful starting point. Late spring can bring faster water from snowmelt and a more demanding trip. Choose your date together with the river section and your group's experience; the operator confirms suitability for each departure.

Late spring: stronger water

Higher water can make the experience more energetic. Tell us about your rafting experience, swimming confidence and guest ages before choosing a route.

July & August: summer holidays

Warmer weather and often calmer water make summer a popular planning choice for beginners and families. Children still need the operating partner's approval for the selected trip.

Early autumn: confirm departures

Cooler weather and changing water levels can affect the programme. Confirm the departure and the operator's schedule before committing to travel arrangements.

For winter or dates outside the usual operating season, ask us to check availability before planning around rafting. Read the Tara River rafting season guide and our guide to rafting suitability for beginners and families.

Tara River rafting FAQ

Tara River rafting:
your questions answered.

River conditions and participant suitability can change. The operating partner makes the final safety decision for each departure.

Where does rafting in Montenegro take place?

Silver Firs offers guided rafting journeys through Tara Canyon in northern Montenegro. The precise start and finish points depend on the selected half-day, full-day or two-day package and current operating conditions.

Does rafting from Žabljak start in the town?

No. Žabljak is the pickup base rather than the river launch point. Where arranged, guests are collected in Žabljak and transferred by road to the confirmed rafting base; the final meeting and transfer details are provided in writing.

Can Tara River rafting be arranged from Žabljak?

Yes. Pickup can be arranged from Žabljak, as well as Kolašin and Mojkovac, subject to the selected trip and written confirmation.

How much does Tara River rafting cost in Montenegro?

The half-day trip is €70 per person, the full-day trip starts from €120, and the two-day journey starts from €240. Final pricing and availability are confirmed in writing for your selected date.

Which trip is best for first-time rafters?

The half-day package is the most compact introduction. Final suitability depends on guest ages, swimming confidence, river conditions and the local operator’s assessment.

Can children join Tara River rafting?

Children may be considered, but suitability depends on age, ability, the selected river section and conditions. Share every child’s age when enquiring so the operator can decide.

When is the best time to raft the Tara River?

Conditions change through the operating season. Higher water can create a more energetic experience, while lower summer water is often calmer. Read our seasonal Tara rafting guide and ask us to confirm current conditions.

What is included?

Every listed trip includes professional guidance and required rafting equipment. Meals, pickup and other inclusions vary by package and are stated in your written quotation.

What should guests bring?

Bring swimwear, a towel, dry clothes, secure footwear, sun protection and any personal medication. Final preparation instructions are sent before departure.

What happens if conditions change?

The local operator makes the final safety decision based on river and weather conditions. Silver Firs coordinates any available rescheduling or other option under the accepted booking terms.

Can I fit Tara River rafting into a trip from Kotor or Budva?

Plan your journey to northern Montenegro separately from the rafting programme. Our published pickup options are Žabljak, Kolašin and Mojkovac; a coastal transfer is not automatically included. Share your starting town before booking so we can discuss a workable itinerary. Our Montenegro coast and mountains guide helps you plan time in both regions.

Do the listed durations mean time on the river?

No. Allow time for transfers, equipment fitting, the briefing and any included stops as well as rafting. The half-day programme is listed at 4–5 hours and the full-day at 7–8 hours, with sample timings below each package. Confirm your expected return time before arranging another activity or an onward transfer.

Where is the meeting point?

The exact rafting base or confirmed pickup point is sent in writing because it varies with the selected package and transfer arrangement.

Can I book Tara River rafting for a group?

Yes. Send your preferred date, participant count, guest ages, pickup town and chosen trip. Silver Firs checks availability and coordinates local arrangements with the operating partner. Raft allocation, any exclusive arrangement, transfers and the total price are confirmed in your quotation.

Do I need rafting experience or swimming ability?

Previous rafting experience is not always required, but the operating partner must assess your suitability for the chosen route and conditions. Tell us your swimming confidence and any relevant requirements before booking. Do not assume that equipment removes the need for this assessment.

Are pickup and park fees included in the rafting price?

Professional guidance and required rafting equipment are included in the listed trips. Pickup, meals, overnight arrangements and any applicable park or access fees must be checked against your selected package and written quotation before payment.

Friends, families & agency groups

Tara River rafting for groups in Montenegro.

Planning rafting for several travellers? Send one enquiry with your date, number of participants, guest ages, overnight base and preferred trip. Silver Firs checks the river programme and coordinates the local arrangements with the operating partner.

Choose a shared starting point

Tell us whether everyone is staying in Žabljak, Kolašin or Mojkovac. We will confirm the meeting or pickup arrangement and whether the transfer is included in your quotation.

Match the route to your group

Share rafting experience and swimming confidence for every participant, along with children's ages. Raft allocation and suitability are confirmed by the operating partner; a group enquiry does not guarantee an exclusive raft.

Confirm the complete programme

Ask for the total price, river distance, expected return time, meals and any overnight arrangements. Keep your next activity flexible until the rafting schedule is confirmed.

Travel agencies can use our Montenegro DMC and group travel service to place rafting within a wider itinerary. For a rafting-only request, check Tara River availability with your group details.
