What can you see in Montenegro in ten days?

Ten days allow a genuine coast-to-mountain journey rather than a highlights race. Use two nights around Boka Bay, three in Budva, two in Kolašin and two in Žabljak, with Lake Skadar and Cetinje placed naturally between the coastal bases.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1Tivat arrivalArrival
  • Meet at Tivat Airport.
  • Transfer to a Tivat or Kotor hotel.
  • Walk the waterfront or rest according to arrival time.

Alternative: Use Tivat for the easiest arrival; choose Kotor for immediate historic atmosphere.

  • Take a private Boka Bay boat tour.
  • Visit Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks.
  • Explore Kotor Old Town or add the cable car.
  • Return for a second night beside the bay.

Alternative: Longer boat routes can include the Blue Cave; shorter routes suit a relaxed pace.

Day 3Cetinje, Lipa Cave and BudvaCulture
  • Check out and travel towards Cetinje.
  • Explore the Old Royal Capital.
  • Join the seasonal Lipa Cave experience.
  • Continue to Budva and check in.

Alternative: Travel directly to Budva when cave schedules or arrival fatigue make a lighter day preferable.

Day 4Budva RivieraCoast
  • Walk Budva Old Town and the coastal promenade.
  • Include Sveti Stefan and Petrovac viewpoints.
  • Keep the afternoon free for beach or spa time.

Alternative: Active travellers can add Budva paragliding or Budva canyoning, subject to conditions.

Day 5Lake Skadar and CrmnicaLake

Alternative: Choose Pavlova Strana and Rijeka Crnojevića instead of wine tasting.

Day 6Journey to KolašinTransfer
  • Check out and travel inland.
  • Pause in Podgorica or a scenic stop only if it improves the day.
  • Arrive in Kolašin with time for a relaxed evening.

Alternative: For nature-first groups, go directly and preserve energy for the next day.

Day 7Bjelasica and Biogradska GoraMountains
  • Visit Biogradska Gora National Park.
  • Choose a Bjelasica Jeep safari or a gentler lake programme.
  • Return to Kolašin.

  • Check out and travel towards Žabljak.
  • Stop at Đurđevića Tara Bridge.
  • Add the Tara Canyon zipline when operating.
  • Check in for two nights.

Alternative: Use Zabojsko Lake or Mojkovac as a longer scenic detour when timing allows.

Day 9Durmitor and Tara adventureAdventure

Alternative: Alternatives include ATV touring, guided horse riding in Žabljak or guided hiking.

Day 10DepartureDeparture
  • Check out and transfer to Podgorica or Tivat Airport.
  • Use a late flight if leaving directly from Žabljak.
  • Add a Podgorica night when an early departure makes the direct transfer impractical.

Alternative: The route can be reversed for arrivals into Podgorica.

Is this route right for you?

Best for

How Silver Firs works

Silver Firs designs and coordinates the journey and remains your local planning contact. Individual activities are delivered by selected local operators, who manage their guides, equipment, safety procedures and on-the-day decisions. Final timings, inclusions and responsibilities are confirmed in writing.

Before you finalise the route

Keep outdoor days flexible. Confirm mountain access before a Durmitor excursion, agree a land-based alternative if a boat trip cannot run, and avoid a long mountain transfer immediately before an early flight. For families, confirm child ages, suitable safety equipment and activity restrictions with the operator before payment.

Frequently asked questions

Is ten days too long for Montenegro?

No. Ten days allow multiple regions without changing hotels every night and provide useful flexibility for weather-dependent activities.

Can the itinerary use only three bases?

Yes. Kotor/Tivat and Budva can be combined into one coastal base, though this creates longer local drives.

Does this route include Albania or Serbia?

No. It is designed entirely around Montenegro. Cross-border extensions require separate border, transport and timing planning.

Can activities be removed?

Yes. Every activity is optional until the final proposal is agreed and confirmed.

What airport pairing works well?

Tivat arrival and Podgorica departure can reduce backtracking, but actual flight availability should determine the final direction.
